Everybody knows that!

Here's where you get off topic and off center....Keep it nice, keep it clean, no sniping, no flaming. After that, anything goes.

Everybody knows that!

Or do they? I have been accused of living on planet illogica, told that the poster was giving up till I talked sense, you'll get the picture.
So what was it that triggered such comments, from a mod now less BTW.
Simple, I asked, 'what causes an Ice Age?'

Global cooling?
Something is wrong here. War, disease, death, destruction, hunger, filth, poverty, torture, crime, corruption, and the Ice Capades. Something is definitely wrong. This is not good work. If this is the best God can do, I am not impressed.

Depends on what that means Min. Does it mean a drop in the maximum temps, in the minimum, or the average?

If the maximum drops and the minimum drops then the average drops by definition.

Bigger question is, what causes global cooling in the first place? Orbital variation? Slight decrease in solar activity?

Not so my friend, there are ways for the average to drop without either falling.

Amazingly, Roy is right for a change!

:-)

But if you replace 'average' by 'median' you're correct, Min.

How...exactly...would that happen?

Longer winters Min. In fact all that is needed for an Ice age is for, year on year, more snow to fall than melts.
Dropping the minimum temps would in fact be counter productive, for example, the poles are amongst the dryest spots on the globe.
Such conditions don't even preclude hot summers, just need shorter ones.

FAIL!
That doesn't show Min how, while both max and minimum temps drop, the average temp doesn't necessarily drop as well.
