I wonder why they don't allow for evolution to do its thing.

If these species are under stress and can no longer retreat to higher elevations why assume that extinction is the only possibility? Darwin suggests that species which are under stress will have a chance to evolve. Those members of the community which have the best survival mechanism may evolve to live at higher temperatures.

If they are incapable of evolving then they will indeed go extinct. The vast majority of species which ever existed are extinct. It is hardly uncommon.

Agreed Min, but that wasn't my reason for the links. One august body states that plants migrate downwards and 'tother that they migrate upwards!

The articles are 4 years apart and reflect the fact that science must experiment and react to the results of those experiments.

You must admit that it is a superior process to having some guy in a pointy hat declare that the sun revolves around the earth and threaten to burn at the stake anyone who disputes him.
