Re: Beyond "Diffusionism"
The Hopi have long been a riddle.
If you get into their oral histories you can get the idea that they roamed the entire N A continent before voluntarily deciding to live in the most inhospitable place in the continent.

Not so hard to find.....

http://wikibin.org/articles/robert-morning-sky.html
Uh-huh.Robert Morning Sky , an Native American of Hopi and Apache decent, he is the author of The Terra Papers and also is a lecturer of alternative history. Robert Morning Sky states that his grandfather and five other men found a crashed UFO in the New Mexican desert on 13 August 1947. He states this these six men recovered a living survivor named Bak'Ti, who communicated to them through some kind of crystal imaging device. Morning Sky claims that Bak'Ti was known to the Hopi as the "Star Eldar"
http://www.bibliotecapleyades.net/vida_ ... en_20a.htm
Robert Morning Sky travels almost constantly, mesmerizing audiences large and small around the world.
He demonstrates traditional Native American dances, then tells this story in living rooms, theatres, in school auditoriums, on radio and TV shows and in personal interviews - anywhere people will listen to him. He has quickly become a favorite speaker at Expo’s and UFO conventions. His words resonate with truth.
People receive answers to far more questions than they could ever think to ask, and they come back to hear him again and again.
Morning Sky has been subjected to several burglaries at his office with confidential files and computer equipment stolen. His travel trailer was vandalized. His life has been threatened. He has suffered great losses, but he made a promise to his grandfather, and that promise will not be broken, no matter the cost.
This version of Robert Morning Sky’s "Terra Papers - Hidden History of Planet Earth" was condensed especially for Perceptions by Betty Bland who lives and works in Seattle.
Something is wrong here. War, disease, death, destruction, hunger, filth, poverty, torture, crime, corruption, and the Ice Capades. Something is definitely wrong. This is not good work. If this is the best God can do, I am not impressed.

Re: Beyond "Diffusionism"
The Dali Lama has met with the Hopi and I believe the Hopi feel there is a connection between their people. In Frank Water's classic Book of the Hopi, some of his informants spoke of practices that took place in some Mesoamerican temples(the Hopi believe that some Mesoamerican cities were built by Hopi clans that failed to complete their migration rounds through the Americas, hence never arriving at the final intended homeland known as the Hopi Mesas. I believe these are the migrations kbs is referring to. The swastika is the Hopi migration symbol. Petroglyphs showing partial swastikas are interpreted by the Hopi as left by clans indicating which stage of the migration cycle they were on at the time the petroglyph was made. The symbol of the swastika is found in several ancient cultures around the world) These practices involved knowledge of the psych-physical centers of the human body that Eastern disciplines refer to as the chakras.

Re: Beyond "Diffusionism"
One thing that may be relevant in that context is that the South Ametican drug, ayahuasca, is known to produce similar visions in the participants, very similar, and consistent regardless of who ingests it. In other words, people are opened to a "realm" that appears very similar to all participants, with similar denizens and inhabitants encountered. The spirit guardian of plant species. And interestingly, ufos and ufonauts are consistently encountered. There is at least one well known ayahuasca shaman whose paintings of his visions often show this element. UFO's in a universe revealed by ayahuasca. The same DMT compound in ayahuasca is found in our brains, and is found in psylicibin mushroom, and other hallucinagins. Lest you be saying, well, what does this have to do with the Hopi, well the Hopi's oral renderings, at least as first described to Frank Waters in the 60's stated their belief that the kachina spirits originated from the Pleiades star system, the so-called 7 sisters. And they are not the only tribe to so identify the Pleiades as the home of intelligent beings. It could be that the "crackpot" is simply merging this information, or simply believes the modern UFO phenomenon simply confirms the Hopi world view, their cosmology. The notion of star people was not foreign to the Hopi, or other Pueblos. Long before our own modern UFO era. And the notion of multiverses offred up by some quantum theorists has some wondering if ayahusca and other DMT activators are simply opening consciousness to the perception of this broader context beyond our physical universe. Some today believe consciousness is non-local, and the brain a receiver, rather then the receptacle of consciousness. Some believe the ufos that appear in our sky's are able to "pop in and out" as it were because they have a better understanding of how to use consciousness to access other realms in the multiverse. Of course, anyone should feel free to fall on the floor laughing at all this or throw their hands in the air in utter dismay. I well understand. But I find consciousness studies in conjunction with quantum theorizing may eventually permit the Western world to understand that the realms accessed by shamanic techniques may be more then mere mind altering hallucinations. And certainly, not all the denizens of any shamanic based cosmology are interpreted to be "of this earth" So, there may be all kinds of relevant perspectives beyond "he's a crackpot". But, that depends are what type of universe one is willing to contemplate as having any validity. Certainly, the materialistic dogma of most modern science does not make any of this popular among scientists who just say "lunacy" and move on. My own take is that we will in fact arrive at a point where science recognizes there may indeed be different "worlds" opened up by activating the DMT in our brains through plants that produce compounds like ayahuasca. And maybe even including those pesky ufos.Minimalist wrote:uniface wrote:And all of that stuff is of what relevance to Hopi--Sumerians ?

Here's the shaman/artist I was referring to above, the late Pablo Amaringo:
http://www.ayahuascavisions.com/pablo-a ... -book.html
And his visionary paintings. Clicking on any painting will bring up a page describing the paintings components, helping to reveal the mythos reflected in the visionary art:
http://www.ayahuascavisions.com/pablo-a ... ngs-1.html
The painting below by Amaringo has several ufos in the center of the composition.
And finally, if you wish to experience non-local consciousness and experience alternative cosmos, as it were, then an ayahuasca experience in a safe setting is required( You could just join a Buddhist monastery and practice spiritual technique for years, of course) This isn't pot. With DMT directly, this is the "you" you're familiar with is here one second, and nowhere to be found the next. People with heart conditions are not allowed to register at most ayahuasca retreats. Group mind can also be experienced in these sessions, non local consciousness takes some getting used to, but it's doubtful you'll see the universe and life the same way again. None of this is new to fans of the late Terence McKenna of course. Part of the crumbling of certain long held Western dogmas. At any rate, here is the best documentary on this subject if interested. And uni, I almost feel like I hijacked your thread with such a sharp turn. I guess you never know where a thread will go. Long way from Hopi-Sumarians, sorry...
Explaining how DMT in the plant world interacts with DMT in the human brain. Say hello to the multiverse. We all have our points of view and backgrounds. Our fundamental philosophies. But I would be very surprised if anyone could watch this film through to the end, and leave feeling these highly intelligent and thoughtful people are involved with something "crazy". Watch it in it's entirety and tell me that. Try telling me they are not onto something very, very important. Consciousness studies are a huge part of our future understanding of the universe. This film does have the power to change how you interpret reality. Simple as that. And if the people who take these journeys, be they Western explorers of the ayahuasca cosmos, or traditional shamanic healers, meet non-human entities along the way, then the uber materialists among us will just have to get over it and adjust to what, after all, is only "new" information to the Western civilization that has managed to forget it all since the rise of modern science.

1) Min : No disrespect, but "crazy" is 100% relative to the assumption set intrinsic to your reference point. I'm not all that sure yours is so definitively in sync with Reality (capital "R") that there's no room in it for emmendation -- "crazy" or otherwise.
2) S : Interesting stuff.

uni, you know what is said: keep an open mind, just don't let your brains fall out of your ears.
You have wasted a whole lot of peoples' time here by being stupid enough to fall for this con man's routine.
There is nothing wrong with that, so you can stop beating yourself up for doing it.
I am sure you are forgiven by those here.
Just please do not do it again.
Note particularly the Hopi statement of their policy at the link given, and
Remember it.

EP : If I didn't know what a great guy you are, and didn't understand that older people with nagging physical & mental issues get cranky (takes one to know one), I'd mistake you for a five-star asswhole sometimes.
I really do appreciate it that you're concerned for my intellectual-spiritual life. I've got a paleoconservative Roman Catholic friend who bombs me with no end of what-I-must-believe-and-never-ever-trust-anything-the-[fill in the blank]s-say-because-they're-a-bunch-of-stinky-old-poopyheads. There's another friend who beats me around the head and shoulders with Swopes.com. Which, as all decent and right-thinking people KNOW, is the ultimate touchstone distinguishing TRUTH from falsehood and error.
I'm too simple for that stuff -- more like a dog. If I run into something that seems interesting, I'll sniff it. And sometimes (like with this) bark.

Re: Beyond "Diffusionism"
One of the most recent studies, from John Hopkins University, that has developed out of the ideas discussed in The Spirit Molecule. If you did take the time to watch that documentary, there may not be anything surprising about the results of this study:
http://healthland.time.com/2011/06/16/m ... long-term/
And the John Hopkins School of Medicine Psylocybin Cancer Study:
http://www.bpru.org/cancer-studies/faq.html
WHY DO YOU THINK PSILOCYBIN MAY BE BENEFICIAL FOR PEOPLE DISTRESSED BY THEIR CANCER DIAGNOSIS?
Early research with psilocybin and related substances from the late 1950s to the early 1970s indicated that such substances may help bring about personally meaningful and often spiritually significant experiences that lead to ongoing reductions in anxiety, depression, personal isolation, and fear of death. Regulations enacted in response to excesses of the "psychedelic 1960s" stopped almost all medical research, leaving some promising threads dangling. However, recent regulatory changes have allowed for such research once again. Our recent research in healthy volunteers also suggests a possible therapeutic effect of psilocybin in those distressed over a cancer diagnosis. This research has shown that under prepared and supportive conditions, psilocybin often leads to personally meaningful and spiritually significant experiences with associated sustained positive changes in attitudes and behavior.
--------------------------------------------------
I'm reasonable sure I'm firmly grounded in reality. However, I don't pretend to know all the parameters of "reality", and in my personal experience stretching the boundaries epistomologically, thinking outside the box in that realm, is very invigorating intellectually. I'm firmly with the folks who are in fact leading in that research, the thoughtful minds who spoke of just these things in the The Spirit Molecule. The John Hopkins study is a form of vindication for exploring our own consciousness. We interface the universe with our senses, but let these new studies truly take us where we least expect. It won't be insanity. I only believe that the West is only going to find more "reality" to the realms of consciousness accessed by shamans for millennia then the West counted on finding there. More then it bargained for. Not such a radical idea in itself, and would do us good, it's not the end of science, it's where consciousness studies may take us if we come off our high horse long enough and are willing to learn things that don't at first sit comfortable with received opinion of what is "real". Certainly the young Western anthropologist, living and studying in Amazonia, and who spoke in the film, felt that was just what might be happening. It's only going to help people to reconnect. And if there is a content that involves "spirituality", well I can certainly see the benefit for terminally I'll patients. Near Death Experiencers basically lose their fear of death. Why?? I confess I do think this represents a real frontier, this consciousness studies. Of course this isn't everyone's cup of tea, but the John Hopkins study shows it does have it's benefits.
