Scientists have discovered a dramatic variation in the genetic make-up of humans that could lead to a fundamental reappraisal of what causes incurable diseases and could provide a greater understanding of mankind.
The findings mean that instead of humanity being 99.9 per cent identical, as previously believed, we are at least 10 times more different between one another than once thought - which could explain why some people are prone to serious diseases.
How much more so between us and HNS or Erectus?
Something is wrong here. War, disease, death, destruction, hunger, filth, poverty, torture, crime, corruption, and the Ice Capades. Something is definitely wrong. This is not good work. If this is the best God can do, I am not impressed.
I agree, too much is happening too fast to draw reliable conclusions.
An oral surgeon told me something interesting the other day.
He said that when MEN's jaws get "locked" or inflamed where they
articulate with the skull, they tend to get better in a reasonable amount of time, whereas WOMEN with the same problem suffer with it for sometimes years on end.
I asked him why and he said it had something to do with the fact that women's tendons in there have a different chemical composition than those of men!
That seems extremely wierd to me.
More genetics to ponder.....
whereas WOMEN with the same problem suffer with it for sometimes years on end.
You don't suppose it has something to do with women not giving their jaws a rest, do you?

The majority of DNA sequences in the human genome have yet to be analyzed and, as your previous article demonstrates, this is a far more complex endeavor than anyone ever imagined.

Until this is sorted out all of the haplogroup x stuff really needs to be looked at harshly.

Yeah Min, even the geneticists know that the field is in it's infancy. It's pretty exciting though.
The mDNA that has been responsible for the explosion of the new fad language that we see is actually taken from a miniscule portion of the "D" loop on the chromosome that seems to mutate prolifically. In fact, it's mutation rate is way out of line with the rest of the mDNA chromosome.
Only time will really tell us how significant this one small area is. And we haven't yet been able to view the nuclear DNA as a whole.
The National Geographic study is very interesting, however it shouldn't be seen as the final answer.

That's my point, Haplogroup X (mtDNA X) only represents one small section of the human genome. There is a world of information being ignored from chromosomes 1 through 23 when scientists only analyze populations with mtDNA or yDNA. Nuclear DNA has a tremendous amount to tell us about historical genetics that is just now being unraveled. Here is a rather wild article about Neanderthal autism and ADHD, the point being what can be discerned by looking at nuclear DNA:

Bob, where is your self-control?
Stream of consciousness, Stan.....self-control is for celebrities like Mel Gibson.

Er... I have to say my lovely, lovely girlfriend doesn't have this problem and tends to open her mouth mainly just when she's got something to say - although I'll admit there's times when I don't have a f****** clue what she's talking about. Still, she's given up trying to convert me to feng shui so there's at least some level of communication going on.
O course you don't have a clue what's she talking about WA, she's a woman! To be fair, my wife claims she has the same problem with me.
It's one of the great mysteries of life that the human race got off base one, the two sexes have so little in common, it must have been due to the lack of electric lighting in the caves I reckon.

Charlie, I move we enter this one into the Classic Quotes thread in spite of Michelle's incessant monitoring ...
I've got yer 'classic quotes' right here.....
Strike an average between what a woman thinks of her husband a month before she marries him and what she thinks of him a year afterward, and you will have the truth about him.
-- H. L. Mencken
When a man gives his opinion he’s a man. When a woman gives her opinion she’s a bitch.
