Best case? The so-called Jesus was a composite character created by cobbling together various legends.

Worst case? Those "Jesus is Lord" bumper stickers should be replaced by "Jesus is Fraud."

In either case, one ambiguous phrase is not enough to breathe life into the body.
Something is wrong here. War, disease, death, destruction, hunger, filth, poverty, torture, crime, corruption, and the Ice Capades. Something is definitely wrong. This is not good work. If this is the best God can do, I am not impressed.

sorry to interupt buti highly doubt you can prove that. just because there are other myths out there does it mean that the Christians would fabricate their own diety.

you forget that there were too many eyewitnesses at the time who could have refuted the gospels and other references when they were published.

the sadducees and the pharisees are two such examples.

Unlikely, even without the slaughter of the Great Revolt. Life spans were not that long.

Life spans were not that long.
they had he same amount of time we do, so that isn't a valid reason.

Sheer idiocy.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maximum_life_span

In ancient Rome average life span was 22 years although there is no shortage of ancient historical figures that can be reliably said to have lived to 80. By the mid−1800s the typical North American lived to be 40. Today, people in the most developed countries have an average life span of about 80. Reduction of infant mortality has accounted for most of this increased average longevity, but since the 1960s mortality rates among those over 80 years has been decreasing by about 1.5% per year.

--"all you need for a founding figure is a name and a place"--

Who does not have to be a real live person...or even a dead one. Mithras and all the other saviour-gods never walked the earth, either.

As has been observed elsewhere.....people will believe lots of stupid shit.

I get the reference.

What part of "it is not convincing" is giving you the most trouble.

All those other religions had no trouble growing without a corporeal god.
Judaism was the same way.

average life span
the key being the word 'average'. given the amount of wars that Rome were involved in i can see 22 years as an exception and not the reality of the actual life span.

I really do not understand where you are coming from with this. I equate Jesus with Mithras and Tammuz and Adonis, etc., etc. All fictitious creations by the fertile imagination of men. Paul may have been the con man pushing the Jesus idea but something tells me that he was not the originator. Jewish traditions have this going back into the first century BC.

For the thirtieth, or perhaps fortieth, I understand your reference. It is not convincing. Are you so insecure that you cannot rest if there is someone in the world who disagrees with you?

Repeating the same thing over and over is not likely to result in a different outcome.

Deal with it.
