Protect and Preserve?

From the news page, I found this article. I personally am angered by the very thought. I strongly believe historical/archaeological sites, should be protected and preserved. What are the best methods of doing so?

This really is archaeological heresy. Cahokia is supposed to be protected already but I'm unsure how far the protection extends. A law suit needs to be filed.

If it is declared a national historic landmark it is protected by the federal government, is it not?

So is the Gettysburg Battlefield....but they shit all over that.
Something is wrong here. War, disease, death, destruction, hunger, filth, poverty, torture, crime, corruption, and the Ice Capades. Something is definitely wrong. This is not good work. If this is the best God can do, I am not impressed.
