Vanishing Ice

Here's where you get off topic and off center....Keep it nice, keep it clean, no sniping, no flaming. After that, anything goes.

Merry Yule tide Min!
Seems reasonable to me, unfortunately I allowed my self to led off course again but I'm still hoping to see some research results on some of the other possible vectors as I feel very strongly that, as you have agreed in the past, that there may well be other players in the game. Players that aren't being considered.
You will perhaps have noticed the comment that government ministers have to take their advise from others, agreed, the frightening thing is the author of the title IS a government advisor!

What is the more responsible thing for a government minister or advisor to do? Tell everyone to reduce the consumption of fossil fuels to try to slow down the warming process OR tell them it is fine to keep driving Hummers?

As I have also said before, there are any number of reasons for the West to reduce its dependence on oil that have nothing to do with the environment and everything to do with global politics and finance.

And Merry Mithras to your side of the pond. mon ami.
Something is wrong here. War, disease, death, destruction, hunger, filth, poverty, torture, crime, corruption, and the Ice Capades. Something is definitely wrong. This is not good work. If this is the best God can do, I am not impressed.

Early xtians borrowed the date from the Sol Invictus crowd...who in turn had borrowed it from the Saturnalia. I'm all for putting the Saturn back in christmas!

Afaik they 'borrowed' from just about every philosophy or religion they got their paws on. As did the Jews before them and the Muslims later.
I haven't heard Zoroastrianism mentioned yet. I've always understood it was formative to Judaism and Xtianity, and, by extension, to Islam.

I've given up this debate on another forum as the 'consensus' appears to be that if the majority of people believe something then it must be correct.
The fact that any previous majority view that has been overthrown has been due to the work of a minority seems not to register.

Good thing that outlook is wrong, Dig....otherwise the earth would still be flat.

I made that point Min but the argument that was thrown at me was that there was never any scientific evidence to support a flat Earth, in fact one poster insists that they can think of no consensous based on scientific evidense that has been over thrown.
i was also informed that such views as a flat Earth were simply attempts to explain something with the best knowledge available at that time.
I gave up and pointed that that is always the case, even today!
The dictionary definition of consensus is the view held by the majority, whether right or wrong!
I sometimes wonder why i don't follow the wife's advise and save the effort!
Some times the consensous has been over turned by the efforts of a single individual, but not apparently to some people. Darwin and Einstein were a minority of one!
We may not always agree on this forum but by heck it's nice to get back to some logical reasoning on occasion

Two words:

Charles Darwin.

Newton, Einstein, Wegener, in fact i went as far as to point out that nearly all major advances overturned long held views and were nearly always the work of individuals Min.
Individuals who would now perhaps not even be published as authorities on their subjects as they were often unqualified.
Unqualified because they created entirely new disciplines.
One thing I have learned from that particular forum is that Goebbels was correct, tell people the same thing often enough and they'll accept it.
What ever happened to the enquiring mind?
Take the link I posted earlier about HSN diet, let's all act surprised shall we? Considering that Homo varietas were all omnivores why the hell should people expect HSN to reject plant food? In fact recent reconstructions suggest that HSN had larger digestive tracts, or more fat, than us, which would suggest a large amount of vegetable food.

It's hard to argue with a firmly held, erroneous opinion.

I get that from the bible-thumpers all the time!

No Min, not difficult, impossible, especially when they use their 'Bible' to prove that their 'Bible' is correct!
